An EveryDollar alternative: first decide whether you are leaving the method

EveryDollar is Ramsey Solutions' zero-based budgeting app, and it supports only US dollars and sells Premium only in the United States, so the right alternative depends on whether the method, the currency or the country is the problem.

Stay with EveryDollar if you live in the United States and zero-based budgeting, where you plan every dollar before the month starts, is what keeps you on track, because Hundo has no zero-based method at all. Switch to Hundo if you live outside the US or hold money in more than one currency: EveryDollar supports only US dollars and does not sell Premium or offer its mobile app outside the United States, while Hundo has no bank connection, no country list and 166 currencies.

EveryDollar is the budgeting app from Ramsey Solutions, and it is built around one idea. In its own words, zero-based budgeting "means you plan where every dollar goes before you spend it so your income minus expenses equals zero".

If that idea changed how you handle money, the method matters more than the app. So this guide starts with the method, because for some readers the honest answer is to keep it.

Does Hundo do zero-based budgeting like EveryDollar?Link to this section

No, and it is better to say that first.

Hundo budgets are monthly or weekly spending limits per category, filled automatically from the categories you choose. There is no plan that has to add up to zero, and no step where every dollar gets a job before the month starts. Someone who relies on that discipline would find Hundo looser than what they have now.

If the method is what you want to keep, stay with a zero-based or envelope app. Goodbudget is built on the envelope method, and our YNAB guide covers apps built around giving every dollar a job.

How much does EveryDollar cost?Link to this section

EveryDollar has a free version, and its page on ramseysolutions.com says you can use it "at no cost for as long as you want". The free version includes a monthly budget with unlimited categories, manual transaction entry, split transactions and due dates for bills.

Premium adds bank connect, custom reports, CSV export, a financial roadmap and coaching. It costs $79.99 a year, shown as $6.67 a month, or $17.99 a month, after a 14-day free trial for new users.

EveryDollar connects to banks through Mastercard Connect and Plaid, and only in Premium.

Can you use EveryDollar outside the United States?Link to this section

Only part of it. EveryDollar's help article Using EveryDollar Outside the United States says:

The EveryDollar mobile app is not available internationally (including Canada). This also means EveryDollar Premium cannot be purchased internationally.

The same article says Premium needs a United States debit card, and that people outside the US can still use the free version at everydollar.com on a computer.

So outside the US you get a zero-based budget on a computer, typed by hand, with no phone app and no bank connection. If that works for you, it is a fair deal. If you want to add an expense on your phone at the till, it is not.

Does EveryDollar support other currencies?Link to this section

No. Its help centre article on currencies other than USD says "EveryDollar currently only supports U.S. dollars", and warns: "Setting your currency to anything other than USD will likely cause calculation errors and other functionality issues in the app."

That matters for anyone who earns in one currency and spends in another, or keeps savings in a second country.

Hundo was built for that case. Each account, asset and budget keeps its own currency, in 166 of them. Each transaction stores the exchange rate for its own date. Net worth reports in one base currency, and can split a change into the part that was your money and the part that was the exchange rate. What a multi-currency net worth tracker has to get right sets out the questions to ask of any tool, and which exchange rate to record covers a card purchase in another currency.

How do entries get into Hundo?Link to this section

Hundo has no bank connection in any country, and it never asks for banking credentials. Why some people prefer it that way.

  • Type the amount first, and pick from suggestions ranked out of your own history.
  • Import a CSV, TSV or Excel file, with column mapping and duplicate detection.
  • In Pro, photograph a receipt, forward an email receipt, dictate, or let the assistant draft the entry for you to confirm.

Typing and file import are free. How to keep tracking by hand after the novelty wears off covers the habit side.

What do you give up by leaving EveryDollar for Hundo?Link to this section

  • The zero-based method. Hundo's budgets are spending limits, not a plan where income minus expenses equals zero.
  • A shared household budget. EveryDollar's household feature lets couples manage one budget together. Hundo does not share a budget between users.
  • Coaching. EveryDollar Premium includes group and one-on-one coaching, and there is nothing like it in Hundo.

What does Hundo give you instead?Link to this section

  • A tracker that is free forever, with nothing capped: unlimited accounts, transactions, budgets and assets.
  • Every currency, with each account, asset and budget in its own.
  • Assets beyond cash. Crypto, stocks, funds and precious metals are priced automatically, you value property and vehicles yourself, and IOUs are tracked per person.
  • Your own AI, if you want one. Hundo publishes an MCP server, so Claude, ChatGPT or another client can read your ledger and draft changes that are only written after you confirm. That is part of Pro, which is pay what you want: $36 a year at the minimum, $72 suggested, or $8 a month, with a 7-day trial for new subscribers. How to connect one.

The short versionLink to this section

In the United States, and the zero-based method is what works for you? Stay with EveryDollar, or another app built on the same idea.

Outside the United States, holding more than one currency, or finding that a plan which must add up to zero became a chore? A spending-limit budget that handles every currency is a different tool, and it may be the one you keep opening.
